National Get-Rid-of-It Month

In the spirit of getting ready for Spring cleaning, March is National Get-Rid-of-It-Month. Haven't heard of it before?  It might be because I just declared it today and up until now it has only been celebrated in my household.  I fully intend to lobby Congress and have it adopted!

Here's the challenge.  Get rid of at least one thing a day for the entire month.  I encourage you to Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) or donate to charity as many of the useable items as possible. If you don't know about Freecycle, you should.  It's easy to join and I have found it's much easier for me to get rid of things if I know someone else wants it, will actually use it and it won't end up at the landfill.

It is truly liberating, not to mention much easier and organize when you're ready for Spring cleaning!  I try to tackle one drawer, one closet, one room at a time.  If that's not possible, toss out those McDonald's Happy Meal toys when no little people are watching.  Freecycle the toys or donate the clothes your kids have outgrown when going through the laundry (if your kids, like mine, occasionally wear items they have outgrown).

Today I recycled some old receipts, expired coupons, plastic Leapster cartridge boxes, and some cologne samples.  And I Freecycled some old baby gear and a toddler toy.  I feel very accomplished.

Happy Get-Rid-of-It Month.

This is my new excuse for getting rid of stuff this month. If anyone complains I will just tell them, "I must because it is national get rid of it month!"

Oh Boy, this could get ugly. I tend to get rid of too much stuff when I get going. Just to clarify...what about cats that pee on the rugs or toddlers that throw fits in public? I guess I have to keep those, right?

What does it say about me that I actually asked for one of the toys you are giving away? My Get-Rid-of-It month is off to a baaaad start.
